Up to 40 of the world's finest bartenders will gather in Sydney in May 2015 to compete for victory in the Bacardí Legacy Global Cocktail Competition. For the first time, the competition will be hosting its grand final in the Southern Hemisphere, Sydney Australia.
"We are very excited to be bringing the Bacardí Legacy to Sydney next year" says Caroline Hipperson, Bacardí Global Brand Director. "It is a perfect opportunity to celebrate and showcase a growing and influential Australasian bar culture, within a city famous for its iconic backdrops and spectacular nature. The effusive spirit and hospitality of this global city will provide the perfect inspiration and competitive arena
for our extraordinary bartenders to shine."
Since 1862, Bacardí has been a prominent player on the global cocktail scene. The Bacardí Legacy Cocktail Competition challenges bartenders to write their own chapter by creating a new cocktail that is worthy of inclusion in this legacy - to be honoured alongside classics like the Mojito, Daiquirí and the Cuba Libre.
With more entrants in the 2015 competition than in any previous year, winning the Bacardí Legacy Global Cocktail Competition offers a potentially life-changing opportunity for a bartender. 2014's winner Tom Walker, who works at The American Bar at The Savoy in London, has seen his Legacy cocktail "Maid in Cuba" hailed as a new classic and served at some of the finest bars in the world. Bacardí is also now working with Tom to provide him with bespoke career development over the next year that will include travel to the United States and Asia, as well as a place on the judging panel at the final in Australia.
The competition was founded in 2008 to support and celebrate extraordinary bartending talent by giving participants the opportunity to create a cocktail that will stand the test of time, become their signature drink and go on to have a lasting legacy.
The finalists will be selected following a series of national competitions held throughout the year. They will enjoy two days of training, development and camaraderie with Bacardí brand ambassadors and key industry experts in Sydney, before presenting their drink in the competition. A panel representing some of the most influential experts of the international bartending and spirits community will judge the final.
