The Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge South Africa national took place in Johannesburg last week, with the winner heading to the global finals in Trinidad and Tobago in Feb 2016.
On Wednesday, 2nd of December at News Cafe Newtown, a panel of judges consisting of Gareth Wainwright, Kurt Schlechter and Dom Walsh assessed the mixology skills of seven of South Africa's most prominent bartenders. After much deliberation, Dino Batista from Molecular bars won 1st place in the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge South Africa, with Brent Perremore from Asoka in second place and Keegan Smith from Hemingways in third.
Dino said, "[The competition] was nerve wracking to say the least. Competing against some of the best in the industry and playing to a captive audience who is waiting on your every move is no easy task. All in all it was an incredible evening and the cherry on top was the esteemed judging panel, which could not have looked more intimidating, but certainly gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. Going through to the global finals, I am extremely excited. All my focus is on the finals and hopefully I will do South Africa proud."
Dino will be heading to Trinidad and Tobago for the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge final, where he will represent South Africa against 11 other finalisation lists on 7th February 2016, from:
· Caribbean isles
· European Union
· Latin America
· New Zealand
· Trinidad & Tobago
The Angostura Global cocktail Challenge 2016 winner receives massive prize of US$10,000 and a two-year contract as Angostura global brand ambassador.
